Pay the same - Get less Baytown Sun? - Part 2

Back on September 22nd, I posted about how the management of the Baytown Sun decided to render the thrown subscription from 7 days to 5, but at the same price?  Their logic was they would up the amount of free info on their website and us subscribers would pick up the cost.  Well, here is my solution so we can be honorable on both ends of the hand shake.

This is a wonderful response. Quite correct and quite fair. I love newspapers. Watching their various death spirals, while entertaining, fills me with sadness. If the Baytown Sun had been honest with me, explained their financial woes, and asked me to help them out, I would have said yes. And gosh darn-it, out of some sort of misplaced loyalty I'm still going to continue to pay them. It's not like they're Halliburton... and stomping dying creatures just makes me feel bad, even when it's to put them out of their misery. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to do exactly what you did. It's disrespectful of myself not to.

Yup, any large display ad we have run in the Sun, IF they ever get them right even after doing the Copy ourselves, (how can that be?) has not gotten even one response.

Unbelievable mismanagement of accounts over there. You do all the prep work, send it, follow up on the receipt, follow up on the follow up, it missed deadline, follow up on the re-run, it missed that, and in the end publish it after the time sensitive deadline AND change the basic info in the copy sent so that it’s incorrect. We gave them a second and third chance on other events. Same results. I asked a rather large group of folks to raise their hands if they got the Sun at home and zero raised their hands. I refuse to approve anymore ad money to the Sun from the church treasury. Any ads now appearing have to be “donated” directly by the group sponsoring.

Hate to see a fairly decent paper in the past get so run into the ground.... When redoing my personal budget lately, I had to put them into the “non-value added” column and quit taking it. Just have to keep paring that budget!

Good for you, BB !!! That'll teach 'em to mess with " Baytown Bert " !!! ( and all of the other " good people of Baytown " who also subscribe to their " hometown newspaper " !!! )

Hmmm.....sounds like the insurance company.... "Hey, good news! We're not going to raise your premium, we're going to lower your coverage"......You go Bert....

I have subscribed to the Baytown Sun for many years, until I noticed the extreme left position they always take on every topic. I compared their value vs. The Houston Post & Chronicle, and The Baytown Mullet Wrapper lost out.

Since I have cancelled my Houston Chronicle subscription because the cost up 333% from the prior amount.

Like Ray Heinrich stated, newspapers are on a spiral death. Who wants to subscribe to something when 80% is retail advertisements.

I guess I will be stuck in the dark ages and uninformed. Go figure!
